Sergei Ogorodnikov was born in Irkutsk, Russia and was primarily raised in various Moscow based hockey schools including HC Dynamo Moscow and HC CSKA Moscow . Ogorodnikov was also a long time member’s of Russia’s U20 and U18 national Team Russia squads. The New York Islanders drafted him 82nd overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The young forward came over to North America during the summer of 2006. Unfortunately the young forward was not able to crack the NHL club’s lineup and after spending the season in the minor leagues with ECHL’s Pensacola Ice Pilots and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, he headed back to Russia. There he joined HC Metallurg (Novokuznetsk) for the 2007-08 season.
