| - Kensei, also known as Sword Saints, are swordsmen of "legendary" skill.
- Kensei, sometimes called kensai, were fighters trained in an ancient school of martial fighting that refined the skills of an individual warrior in their weapon of choice. These fighters, as a result, often became unrivaled amongst all other warriors as the master of their chosen weapon, whatever it may be. In Shou Lung, these fighters were called chujen ("master").
- A Kensei is a legendary swordsman with so much skill, they border on myth. The term stems from the one used in ancient Japan as a title to certain swordsmen of such skill, they were told of in tales and adventures. In the spirit realm, the Kensei are varied but when recognized, tend to have great fame or infamy with titles and myths spreading about them. A Kensei is revered in many places of the spiritual realm, including the Soul Society, and are either highly respected or feared, depending on their actions or intentions.
- "My weapon and I are as one."[PH:87] Prerequisite: Fighter class Kensei Control Action (11th level): You can spend an action point to reroll one attack roll, damage roll, skill check, or ability check, instead of taking an extra action. Kensei Focus (11th level): You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls with a melee weapon of your choice.
- In ancient Japan, a kensei(剣聖, sword's saint; sometimes rendered in English as Kensai, Ken Sai, Kansei, or Kenshei) was an honorary title given to a warrior of legendary skill in swordsmanship. The literal translation of "kensei" is "sword saint". Thus, the term is considered by some to imply a higher degree of perfection (possibly also encompassing a moral dimension) than the more commonly used kengō(剣豪) or "great sword." This is not to be confused with the word kenshi (剣士), meaning "swordsman".
