Malik Ferdenko graduated from the Imperial Naval Academy, and quickly accelerated through the ranks to become squadron leader in the Imperial Starfighter Corps. During a battle against the New Republic, his entire squadron was wiped out, and Malik, depressed, deserted the Empire and started flying for himself. Eventually he made his way to Tatooine, where he was hunted down by Imperial Stormtroopers for desertion. He was saved, however, by a local Rodian named Leebo Krupt. The two joined the Shadow Bandits together, which Malik eventually became leader of, with Leebo as his right hand man. Unfortunately for Malik, Leebo parted from the group with half the group's members after several disagreements of the organization's direction, and the two friends never reconciled their differences.
