A ruling is a statement issued by Konami which clarifies the interactions between cards and card effects. Unofficial rulings are not issued by Konami, but are based on official rulings (e.g. by extrapolating an official ruling on a specific card's effect to include all cards with a similar effect). While it is generally safe to follow such rulings, and they even often influence judges' decisions, Konami does not recognize them and occasionally issues official rulings that contradict them.

Text
  • "What else did Ser Hugo have to say?"
  • "We must pretend we've heard nothing. Let the magistrate bring me the news himself."
  • "King Robert's deed of land and title was lawful, my [lord/lady]," Maester Lucas says. "But who can compel the current court to comply with the law?"
  • Oskar smiles. "Would you want him to trust such a ruling to messengers, my [lord/lady]? He will have to come to [Your Holding] in person."
  • You are with your advisors when Rona brings a message. "Ser Hugo says, 'The magistrate made his ruling. You're in clear violation of his terms.'"
  • "What does that mean? Will the magistrate try to take my lands away?"
  • "Why have we heard nothing of the magistrate himself?"
  • "Bring him here. Smother him with goodwill and gifts. Make it hard for him to turn on us."
  • "That was all his letter said, my [lord/lady]." Rona bows. Udemi frowns. "He was afraid the letter would be seized. No other reason to keep it so short."
  • "I will not lose [Your Holding]. Prepare our defenses."

In the past, there have been wide discrepancies between rulings in the TCG and OCG; however, with the acquisition of card operations by Konami, steps have been taken to harmonize the two.
