He played junior hockey for the Montreal Nationale in 1947-48 and then played two seasons in the Quebec Senior Hockey League. In 1950-51 he turned pro with the Cincinnati Mohawks and also got into 23 games for the Montreal Canadiens, scoring one goal. In 1951-52 Robert won the Alexander Cup with the Quebec Aces. He played in the minor pro and senior ranks until his retirement in 1955.
