Afterward, a large ice shard appears in the sky and launches itself at an angle into the enemy, shattering the ice and injuring the creature before permitting its release. This spell was first introduced in Tales of Rebirth, as one of several Fusionic Force Sorcery spells that fuse together spells of multiple elements, in this case merging the Earth and Aqua elements. Frigid Coffin can affect all adjacent lines, making it most effective if the target is on the center line, allowing the spell to hit a large area of the battlefield. In Tales of the Abyss, the area of Frigid Coffin has been reduced significantly, but it holds the unique distinction as the only spell in the game that cannot be avoided. Once it is cast, there is no animation delay for the spell; it deals damage immediately, often staggering enemies instantly to prevent their escape. As an FOF Change, Frigid Coffin must be activated by using Ground Dasher within a fully-charged Water or Dark FOF Circle. In Tales of Hearts R, this is a strike arte for Pyrox Ferro, who fires his bazooka-like Soma to the ground and causes a sharp iceberg to erupt from the ground.
