- Ash is an S-Mart employee who's well known for sweet talking the ladies. Ash and a group of friends took a trip to what was thought to be abandoned cabin in the woods, but when Ash played the recorded incantation from the recorder he unleashed demonic spirits known as "Deadites". The "Evil" possessed his friends one by one (including his girlfriend) forcing him to kill them with various weapons around the Cabin ( this is supporting to his ability to improvise basic tools and implements into dangerous weapons) such as a double barreled shotgun and a chainsaw which he modified to replace his right hand. Despite killing his friends to stop the Evil and it's demons from entering our world, Ash witnessed time and time again the "Deadites" infect the world with their presence.
- Ash was in his twenties when he lived a "normal" life. He was employed at the superstore, S-Mart (where he worked in the housewares department), and had a girlfriend, Linda. Based on the engineering textbooks in the trunk of his car, it appears that he was studying at Michigan State University. Also, in the first Army Of Darkness comic book released by Dark Horse in 1992, Ash says his father blew $20,000 on his engineering degree showing that either he completed his schooling and had done nothing with his education, or dropped out. (With his ability to easily improvise devices, this implies that he at least excels in the area, if not actually possessing that degree.)

It was there, that his destiny was forced upon him as he was to do battle against the Deadites; Kandarian demons that had the ability to possess the living thanks to the power of the Necronomicon; the Book of the Dead. During the events at the cabin Ash fought to survive as the people around him died and their bodies taken over by the Deadites, even Ash himself was partially possessed, although he managed to overcome this, and his right hand had to be amputated due to it gaining a life of its own and trying to kill Ash. - Ash Williams is just a normal guy like you and me. He walks to the store every morning, picks up breakfast, and heads to work. When he gets home he likes to kick back, turn on the TV, and drink a beer. Completely normal. Except that God hates him. You see, children, God has made Ash his own personal Zombie hunter. Lets say tomorrow the Marvel Universe fills with Zombies again. Suddenly, Ash Williams will find himself in the middle of the fight, chainsaw ready and his trusty boom stick ready to go. Wherever there are Zombies, he is close by.
- Ashley James "Ash" Williams, often referred to simply as Ash, is the main protagonist/exorcist of the Evil Dead series of films and comic books - he is one of the very rare examples of a main character in horror who is a hero, albeit a very flawed and somewhat crazy one.
