The Battle of Lebyool was an attempted ambush at the gas giant Lebyool which quickly turned into a bloodbath for the ambushing Golden Empire. Outlying systems of the Empire had been plagued with raids around the borders of what had been the Chiss Ascendancy, with trade ships and occasionally entire convoys vanishing. Lebyool, as one of the Empire's most important producers of tibanna gas, was considered a prime target, and Prime Legate Tariun Sakaros was dispatched to root out the pirates. He took with him the Star Destroyer Assassin and a variety of support craft. He also took his protégé, Breek Zagrev, and his top pilots, Maliya and Tamlok.

Lebyool, as one of the Empire's most important producers of tibanna gas, was considered a prime target, and Prime Legate Tariun Sakaros was dispatched to root out the pirates. He took with him the Star Destroyer Assassin and a variety of support craft. He also took his protégé, Breek Zagrev, and his top pilots, Maliya and Tamlok. The enemy appeared predictably, consisting of a Victory Star Destroyer and a few support craft. Emboldened, Tariun allowed Breek to direct the battle, taking to flight with Tamlok and Maliya as his wingmates. Shortly after battle commenced, however, reinforcements appeared for the "pirates" in the form of a large fleet of Imperial and Victory Star Destroyers, Lancer frigates, and other craft. Knowing his forces were overwhelmed, Tariun ordered Breek to evacuate. A turbolaser shot passed just by his formation; Tamlok managed to escape the brunt of it and return to the Assassin, but Maliya caught the worst of it and was killed instantly. His systems fried, Tariun was captured by the enemy. The fleet, remnants of what had once been the Sith Vegal Ein's command, lingered briefly at Lebyool, but upon realizing they had caught a Sith Lord, fled the area.
