He was trapped in the capital during Vidal Vordarian's attempted coup against Vorkosigan, but was rescued by Commander Simon Illyan. Kanzian then joined Vorkosigan's forces and spoke to wavering Admiral Knollys on his behalf. He was present at the staff conference when Cordelia Vorkosigan presented the head of Vidal Vordarian to her husband.

He was trapped in the capital during Vidal Vordarian's attempted coup against Vorkosigan, but was rescued by Commander Simon Illyan. Kanzian then joined Vorkosigan's forces and spoke to wavering Admiral Knollys on his behalf. He was present at the staff conference when Cordelia Vorkosigan presented the head of Vidal Vordarian to her husband. Kanzian was short and plump and looked grandfatherly. By the time of Vordarian's Pretendership his hair was gray and he was balding; he died about twenty-five years later of old age. He held back the Cetagandan attack forces during the Third Cetagandan War; Aral Vorkosigan led the forces that came to reinforce his efforts.
