The Long Sunset is a play by R. C. Sherriff, originally broadcast on radio and later live at the Birmingham Reperatory Theater in 1955. It tells the tale of a group of Romans left behind when the Legions depart in 410 AD. As Saxon invaders threaten them, they are aided by a Briton soldier named Arthur. This is one of the first versions to try to present a de-mythologized Arthur, grounded in a historical setting, if not in reality. This Arthur is a practical minded general and astute leader.
