There came a time in the Nerathi Empire when the influence of the Drow became a taboo. Families who had significant dealings with them were shunned. Those who had more than a slight bit of Drow blood in them were at risk of being attacked or even killed. Since the Mageban had been in effect for several years at that point, all the Imperial Maegi were tested and found to be of 'true ancestry.' Kennic, son of Varrok, sat upon the Ruby Throne, and had grown fearful of these Drow-tinged sycophants and supplicants around him.

He summoned his most powerful Maegi and asked if there was a way to remove the Drow stain from the Empire. They said they would look into it. Days later, they stood before the Emperor, and told him how they might purify the blood of the Empire. For days, these and many more Maegi, labored together in a ritual that would effect thousands of citizens. When it was completed, a massive rainstorm began and it grew to cover the entirety of Imperial lands. When the rain touched the flesh of a Drow-blooded citizen, it began to burn. It would enter the body and burn out every part that was Drow. Most did not survive the agonizing process, and the few who did, were so far removed from their Drow ancestors, they had no idea there was any of their blood within them. When the rain stopped, hundreds lay dead in the streets, their bodies twisted and torn. But the Empire had removed one of the sins of it's past.
