abstract
| - Red Skies is an Oxford based, UK private company that provides bespoke software and services to high tech industries including media, utilities, space and finance. While Red Skies works on systems for desktop, mobile and embedded environments, Red Skies is mostly involved in web and Azure cloud systems including the development of a secure private Azure cloud infrastructure for the European Commission and private Azure platform users. Similar large scale private Azure hybrid environments are being developed by Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Fujitsu. Red Skies also provides the Media Monitor service, an Azure cloud service which tracks and profiles media usage around the world from set top boxes, games consoles, Blu-ray/DVD players and other home media systems. This includes films, television broadcasts, music and video games and enables television networks and media owners to track how often and for how long media is used down to individual postcodes. Red Skies is also highly active in entrepreneurial science networking events and groups and runs a number of social meetings and activities that bring together scientists, engineers, investors and entrepreneurs to form new partnerships and collaborative projects. The business is also actively looking at ways to use such networks to improve social mobility in regions of the UK where skills and opportunities more readily go undiscovered. Red Skies is also a partner of the MarsExpo event which looks to present the exciting work of space agencies and companies to the wider public, inspiring people towards getting involved in the new space industry. Red Skies also runs a small space research department which works with partners to explore new technologies specifically for the space sector, including the technologies required for a fully reusable autonomous launch vehicle. The KEIRA project draws together technologies including the Proteus aircraft to carry a reusable launch vehicle (RLV) to 60,000 feet where it is launched to low Earth orbit (LEO) before making an autonomous glider landing at a designated airfield. This project is to explore the individual technologies required for such a launch architecture and provides an opportunity for many different organisations to work collaboratively towards a new launch architecture.
