Nan Dungortheb or the No Land was the name of the wilderness south of Ered Gorgoroth and Dorthonion, east of Dimbar and the river Mindeb, west of Dor Dínen and the Esgalduin, and north of Neldoreth and Doriath.

Das Tal wurde begrenzt durch das Königreich Doriath, sowie durch die beiden Flüsse Mindeb und Esgalduin im Osten und Westen. thumb|182px|Aradhel durchquert das Nan DungorthebSchon immer war das Nan Dungortheb von scheußlichen spinnenartigen, mit großer Kraft ausgestatteten Ungeheuern bewohnt, aber erst als Ungoliant nach der Vergiftung der Zwei Bäume dorthin floh, wurde es zu einem wahren Ort des Schreckens. Dort wurde Kankra, als letzte Tochter Ungoliants, geboren. Auch wenn das gesamte Tal mit Netzen und Fallen gespickt und das Wasser verseucht war, nutzten bis zum vierten Jahrhundert des Ersten Zeitalters viele wehrhafte Elben und andere unsterbliche Wesen den Weg durch das Tal als Passage nach Doriath. Als Aredhel, Fingolfins Tochter die Nan Dungortheb in Richtung Osten durchqueren wollte, wurde sie von ihrem Gefolge durch einen Angriff Ungoliants und ihrer Brut getrennt. Sie konnte jedoch unbeschadet fliehen.
