- Russel is a minor character in "Guy's Night" that appeared in the milk challenge. After Pops gets everyone safe, Russell becomes great friends with him.
- Neither a freight or passenger engine, Russel is regarded as the slowest engine of the NWR fleet. Despite this, The Fat Controller saw potential in him and now he works with the Signal and track engineers dept. Russel carries the NWR number 15.
- Following the discovery of a plastic water cooler in that year, Russel sat in an FBI interview room with Watts. Russel announced that a baby had been floating in the cooler for weeks and that marks on the child's first cervical vertebrae confirmed that the head had been cut off, probably with a kitchen knife. In 1998, Watts, now a former member of the FBI, recalled his discussion with Russel while quarantined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (MM: "The Fourth Horseman")
- Russel and Smythe seemed to be close associates with one another. During the Xenomorph outbreak, Smythe and Russel took refuge outside of the Synthetic Showroom where they hoarded supplies, with Russel announcing to any remaining survivors who came across his archive log that he would be setting up a shop. He also expressed concern over the disappearance of fellow associates Suzanne and Spedding and hoped that if anyone knew where Suzanne was they would notify him. As for Russel, a corpse can be found inside his "shop" that is presumed to be him, though it is unknown how he died.

Whilst Ripley was onboard the station, Russel and Smythe were exploring Seegson Synthetics around the fluid plant reception when a Working Joe began chasing Russel. In a fit of desperation, Russel ran to the elevator and was able to escape, abandoning Smythe. Afterwards, he shut down access to the elevator so the Joe couldn't follow him, but he sent a message to Smythe assuring that he will come back for him, to which Smythe angrily replied to. Smythe's corpse can be found in Seegson Synthetics. A rolled up magazine was shoved down his throat which he choked to death on, presumably done by the Working Joe that was previously chasing Russel. As for Russel, a corpse can be found inside his "shop" that is presumed to be him, though it is unknown how he died.
