E J K "John" Patten was a chartered surveyor and local politician. Educated at Mill Hill and Cambridge, graduating in 1950. He became a Fellow of the Auctioneers Institute and in 1953 he became a partner in Pearson's, an estae agents in Forest Hill. He later became a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and head of Roger Phillips & Co, based in the West End. In 1961 he was elected to the London County Council as a Conservative Party councillor representing Lambeth, Norwood. This was the last election to the LCC, and he remained a member until abolition in 1965.
