Mandella (VBF013) was one of the four first habutated Balrog Mob females. She was most likely born in the group and was a subordinate female under the group's dominate female, Luella Balrog. Luella was four to six years old, prehaps the oldest female. Mandella's age is unknown. There were two other subordinate females in the Balrog as well as 18 males, one of which was Balrog Balrog, the four to six year old dominate male of the group. The same month the group was habutated, Rosemary and Imogen, two evicted Vivian females, attempted to join her group. However, the Balrog chased them away and they were not seen again. Luella was four to six years old, prehaps the oldest female. Mandella's age is unknown. There were two other subordinate females in the Balrog as well as 18 males, one of which was Balrog Balrog, the four to six year old dominate male of the group. The same month the group was habutated, Rosemary and Imogen, two evicted Vivian females, attempted to join her group. However, the Balrog chased them away and they were not seen again. The next month, dominate female Luella aborted her litter, leaving the group without any young pups. However, in September 2001, Luella was pregnant again and in October she gave birth to her first known litter. The pups were Jacaranda, Sobantu, Kali, Mbabane and Mojadi, a litter of five! Mandella helped Luella raise her pups, just like the other two subordinate females. All the pups survived and one pup, Mbabane, would later become the natal dominate male of Mandella's family later on. In November, Luella was pregnant again but she lost her litter. Over the next several months, Mandella and Luella raised the previous five pups to adulthood. Then, in August 2002, Luella got sick and was weak for a week. She dissapeared afterwards. Mandella was the oldest and only breeding female left in the Balrog after this. Jacaranda, the other Balrog female, was Luella's daughter and she was only a sub-adult. Mandella took over as the domiante female beside domiante male Balrog. However, she only would maintain her status for a short while. In September 2002, Mandella was hit by a car. That same day, five lone, evicted females named Velvet, Viv'e , Mangabey, Uacari Vivian and Sifaka Vivian immigrated into her group. They attacked and kicked out Jacaranda, who later dissapeared. Velvet suceeded Mandella as the domiante female and became the long term domiante female.
