abstract	Dr William Gibson Bott (1844 - 23 February 1932) was a physician and local politician. Born in Walsall in the Black Country, he moved to London where he qualified as a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians. He established himself as a general practitioner in the Clapham and Kennington areas. He was a Progressive Party member of the London County Council representing Newington, West 1889-95. In 1891 he was chairman of the county council's Sanitary and Special Purposes Committee. In 1892 he was chairman of the county council's Public Control Committee which regulated weights and measures. In that capacity he opened the council's Central Station for the Stamping of Weights and Measures at Horsemonger Lane.
