He decided to offer them up to his people's rain god by using a catapult. But before he could send his prisoners flying, Vanity Smurf arrived in the village suffering from the jitterbug sickness which caused him to dance uncontrollably. The jitterbug-induced dance of Vanity was similar enough to a "rain dance" that it actually resulted in a rain storm. But as the jitterbugs' dance sickness had no known cure, Vanity was unable to stop dancing, so the rain continued, leading to the lake overflowing and causing a flood. The villagers tried many ways to stop Vanity from dancing but nothing worked, so it kept on raining. Then a cheetah appeared and chased Vanity, accidentally causing one of the witch doctor’s potions to fall into his pot. When Vanity jumped into the pot to escape the cheetah, he came out cured and no longer dancing, which finally caused the rain to stop and the flood to recede. The village chief wanted Vanity to be the new witch doctor as he had ended the drought, but the Smurf refused, pointing out that it was the current Witch doctor’s potion which cured him of his jitterbug sickness. So in the end, the chief let the witch doctor continue his job while Vanity and the other Smurfs went on their way.
