The first United States had been dissolved in 1871. The modern USA is a loose-knit organization. Among other things, it is a free-trade organization. The Congress serves as an international court for the members, and has certain, strictly delimited, powers. Revisions to the Treaty of Union have given the new Congress greater powers. In recent years, there has been talk of a unified currency. Smaller currency unions have already been enacted.
