The story is told from the perspective of Carlos Castillo, a documentary film maker. In March of 2154, Castillo visits the Enterprise (NX-01) and sees crew members in their homes, as a part of obtaining interviews for a project about the Xindi conflict. Among others, he speaks with Jonathan Archer, Maryam Haroun, Jennifer Crossman, Lili O'Day and Malcolm Reed, who is particularly affected by the recent death of Jay Hayes.
