Stephen Coal Bear is the proposed name for a 2-year-old black bear housed at the California Living Museum (CALM) in Bakersfield, CA. CALM announced the contest to name the bear as part of a fund raiser for their facility. A grassroots group sprung up to name the bear "Stephen Coal Bear" and has since built a website, MySpace page, and gotten some local media coverage. There is a $1 entry fee, entries must be received by snail mail no later than September 21, 2007. The winner will be announced September 28, 2007.

The bear that should rightfully be named "Stephen Coal Bear" is now named "Louie". The Friends of Stephen Coal Bear would like to thank everyone who didn't participate.
