(COMIC: The Rogue Planet, Impasse) Humans sent Mechonoids to Mechanus to prepare the planet for colonisation, but Earth got caught up in interplanetary wars such as the Human-Draconian War, the Second Dalek War and Third Dalek War (PROSE: The Chase) and the colonists never arrived. Steven Taylor crashlanded on the planet and was taken prisoner by the Mechonoids. The Mechonoids and their city were destroyed by the Daleks, and Steven departed in the Doctor's TARDIS. To plan gdzie panuje idealny ład i porządek. Precyzja. Zasady. Posłuszeństwo. Mechanus jest rajem porządku społecznego, bez wad, zła czy dobrodziejstwa. Mechaniczny raj biegnie na surowym wykresem a każda czynność jest zaplanowana, uprawomocniona i wykonana. Jest to doskonała synteza świata i maszyny, ten plan zbudowany jest z niezliczonej ilości mechanizmów i kół zębatych połączonych przez obracający zestaw wałów, osi i wirników. Każda maszyna jest naoliwiona i nasmarowana, dzięki czemu wszystko idzie gładko i spokojnie, wszystko ma metaliczne barwy, wszystko wydaje metaliczne odgłosy i ma metaliczny zapach a w powietrzu unosi się zapach smaru do maszyn. A widok, nawet wytrwałego obieżysfera, zatrzymuje dech w piersi gdy pierwszy raz spojrzy na Mechanusa. Nie ma tu słońca ni gwiazd, lecz przez dwanaście godzin całą przestrzeń oświetlające zewsząd światło, zaś na następne dwanaście godzin zapadają ciemności. Nierzadko jednak nad ogromnymi zębatkami zebrać się mogą nawet białe chmury w świetle dnia przysłaniające szokujący widok ogromnych zębatek w niebiosach, które widać tylko czasem tam gdzie chmury stają się cieńsze. Mechanus nie jest głośnym planem i tylko przy granicy zębatek słychać tykające tryby. Im mniejsze i szybsze są tryby, tym hałaśliwsze. Jednak wiele miejsc i pracowni na planie hałasuje wyjątkowo głośno, lecz wciąż są to tylko osobliwe miejsca pośród rytmicznego postukiwania trybów, których nie słychać w głębi ogromnych zębatek.
