The sylin was a stringed musical instrument native to Naboo. The sylin proper was held and played by both hand. A larger version, the ossylin, sat on the lap, and a still larger version, the tessell, must have been put on a table to play. Though playing the tessell required more physical flexibility, the three instruments were considered to be equally difficult to master. Parts for the sylin and ossylin were found in many Naboo compositions, though use of the tessell was rarer, and the education of aristocrats on the planets often involved learning how to play one of the first two. The sylin was also occasionally used in off-world compositions, and had been known to serve as a replacement for other stringed instruments of the same or similar range.
