Victor Jara was a singer-songwriter and political activist in Chile on Earth in the mid 20th century. In 1973, during a military coup d'état against the Chilean government, Jara was one of several thousand held at Estadio Chile, a sports stadium in the capital city of Santiago. Jara attempted to lift the spirits of his fellow prisoners with song; when he refused to stop when ordered, he was beaten and eventually executed. In 2003, Estadio Chile was renamed Estadio Victor Jara in his memory.
