Etahy was seen by the M.A.L.P. sent to Kar'tek by the Tau'ri and it was because of his unique phase shifting ability that they decided to come to the planet. Etahy soon met with SG-1, but the group were attacked by Mars' Jaffa and only Etahy and Daniel Jackson were able to escape. Etahy took Daniel to meet with the Volca's hero, Ulysses, who gave Daniel a piece of phase shifting technology which worked in the same way as the Volca's natural ability. The duo were then able to attack Mars and his contingent of Jaffa, freeing both SG-1 and a number of Volca. It was during this attack that Etahy phased his hand into Mars' Mar'kak host, supposedly killing him; what none knew was that Mars' symbiote had in fact survived.

Strax innan Tau'ri besökte sin hemplanet, Etahy och hans familj jagades av Mars' Jaffa och upptäckte länge förlorade Stargate. Även om de var säkra i grottan kring Stargate, Etahys son beslutat att avveckla genom väggen för att se om Jaffa fortfarande efter dem, mot Etahys önskemål. Det var på grund av detta som Jaffa kunde konstatera deras läge av hans familj. Även hans son togs till fånga, var Etahy och resten av hans familj möjlighet att fly. Etahy sågs av MALP skickats till Kar'tek av Tau'ri och det var på grund av hans unika fasförskjutningen förmåga som de bestämde sig för att komma till planeten. Etahy träffade snart med SG-1, men gruppen anfölls av Mars Jaffa och bara Etahy och Daniel Jackson lyckades fly. Etahy tog Daniel att träffa Volcas hjälte, Ulysses, som gav Daniel en bit av fasförskjutningen teknologi som fungerade på samma sätt som Volca naturliga förmåga.
