- High Tongue was a variant of Old Corellian language in the times of the Old Republic, more than four thousand years before the Battle of Yavin. It was considered "the language of aristocrats", much more favored than other Old Corellian dialects such as Hoodish, Socorran or Vulanish. High Tongue was used by Ensterite Corellians, who are characterized because of their fanatical devotion to their affiliations and their condemnation of inter-planetary marriage. However, as time went by, even the Ensterites abandoned High Tongue in favor of Galactic Basic Standard, which replaced Old Corellian some four thousand years before the Battle of Yavin. They, however, kept using High Tongue for Ensterite regular rites such as the Purging Days.
