| - After the Cataclysm, when hordes of demons were pouring out of the Nerathi Wastes, the closest cities and kingdoms lived in constant fear. They had their own wizards and there was still a handful of Maegi about, but for the most part, mundane weapons were the only option. Against a dretch or some minor demon, it could pass. But should a vrock or marilith attack, it would be a slaughter. Krysskralt, far enough away from the initial damage, and wielding significant arcane powers, was the obvious choice to fight against these demonic forces. But there was only so much they could do against so many. While one of the Crystal Wizards was in Abham, the closest city to the edge of the Waste, the demons attacked. One of them gained entry to the room the wizard was staying at, disrupting him while he was performing a ritual to help the defenses. Quite by accident, while fending off the demon, the wizard shoved it into a mirror hanging on the wall. Rather than break it, the demon entered the mirror and was trapped. Hoping the demon would be contained for the time being, the wizard rushed off to battle. When he returned, the demon was still trapped in the mirror. For the next day, the wizard studied this phenomenon and what it could mean. Then an associate stopped by, not knowing about the trapped demon. He was startled and threw a book at the mirror, shattering it upon impact. The demon inside let off a scream of anguish and then melted away as if it had been slain. Seeing a great possibility, the wizard turned all his time and energy into figuring out what happened, and discovered that a small part of magical residue from his ritual had turned the mirror into vessel that could capture the essence of a demon. And when destroyed, the demon would be destroyed with it. Word was sent back to the Crystal City and by month's end, a method to enchant mirrors to capture demons was in effect. Using the mirrors still required direct contact with the demons, but no longer did they have to be slain outright, merely held within the mirror and then broken. It was a slow process, but eventually the Nerathi Wastes were safe, relatively speaking.
