The lower planes (sometimes Lower Planes) is a collective term used in the Great Wheel cosmology model to represent the Outer planes of Evil alignment, located across the bottom of the Great Wheel. These are Acheron, the Nine Hells, Gehenna, Hades, Tarterus, the Abyss, and Pandemonium. The only other thing these planes have in common is the river Styx which flows through at least one level of each Evil plane. The World Tree cosmology model rearranged, renamed, and reorganized the lower planes into the Fiendish Planes but some people still use the older term to describe the evil-aligned planes.

- The Lower Planes are the evil-aligned realms populated by demons and devils, among other creatures. The denizens of the Lower Planes claim to be older than creation, having existed in the Void since the beginning of time, but they disavow any relation to the beings of the Far Realm, about whom similar theories have been made.
- A term used to refer to the Outer Planes associated with evil alignments, such as the Nine Hells of Baator and the Abyss. This moniker refers to the descending structure of the planes in question. In contrast, good aligned planes are called the "Upper Planes" because of their ascending structure.
