He has gone through several chefs who have been worked to the point where they couldn't handle trying to keep the king satisfied. His son, the prince, is constantly disappointed by the fact that he cares more about food than building family relationships. In the episode, the Gnome King encounters Greedy, who was brought into his underground kingdom by a couple of gnomes searching for food. After trying out a sample of Greedy's cooking, the Gnome King offers Greedy a position as the Master Chef. Greedy felt that this would give him the appreciation that he was sorely lacking from his fellow Smurfs who were taking him for granted. However, the Gnome King proved to be rather ungrateful and refused to let Greedy have any time away from his work. When Greedy decided that he was going to quit being the king's Master Chef, the king had Greedy put into the dungeon until he makes a decision to continue serving the king. Papa Smurf and some of his little Smurfs who were looking for Greedy were allowed entrance into the gnome kingdom, with Papa Smurf promising the king and his gnome subjects a feast that they will never forget. Papa Smurf planned that the heavy meal would make the gnomes sleepy enough so that they could get the chefs out of the dungeon that the king has kept them in. Unfortunately, a mishap by Clumsy awakened the king and his gnomes, threatening to have the Smurfs captured and thrown into the dungeon. The king's son, however, stood up against his father, threatening to leave home if his father wouldn't release his friends. Realizing what his love for food would end up costing him, the king decided to release the imprisoned chefs and to let the Smurfs go back home. Before leaving, Greedy put the king on a three smurfberries a day diet in the hope that he would get back into shape and start caring for his son.
