The MA7A Squad Automatic Weapon was a bullpup, air-cooled, gas-operated, selective fire infantry weapon used by the United Nations Space Command following the Human-Covenant War. The MA7A was a variant of the MA7 Series of assault rifles, and was designed to give soldiers operating within a squad additional range and volume of fire without drastically increasing weight. The MA7A utilised the 7.62x51mm NATO round, which provided accuracy and rate of fire, combined with negligible recoil, making it well suited for use in a squad automatic weapon. The gun provided infantry squads with the heavy volume of fire of a machine gun combined with accuracy and portability approaching that of a rifle.
