The Retro-Orbital Chaos Compressor (R.O.C.C.) was a device created by Doctor Kintobor when he discovered the Chaos Emeralds. Using the golden rings scattered across Mobius and installing them in this machine, Kintobor worked to absorb all negative energy on the planet into the Chaos Emeralds. His ultimate goal: to erase all evil from Mobius forever. The ROCC proved to be quite unstable, however, due to the missing Control Emerald. One fateful day, as Kintobor removed a rotten egg from his refridgerator, he tripped over a cable and slammed the egg into the ROCC's control console, overloading the machine and releasing all of the Chaos Emeralds' collected evil energy. However, without the seventh Chaos Emerald (the Grey Emerald), the ROCC was very unstable. Although Kintobor recruited Sonic the Hedgehog to help him find the last emerald, they were never able to. (This is likely due to the fact that the Grey Emerald was, at the time, in the possession of Knuckles the Echidna on the Floating Island.) One day, while searching for food, Kintobor found that the only thing left in his fridge was a rotten egg. Going to find salt, Kintobor tripped and slammed against the ROCC's control panel, which caused the machine to explode. The evil from the Chaos Emeralds somehow combined with the rotten egg, transforming Doctor Ovi Kintobor into Doctor Ivo Robotnik. The remains of the ROCC likely remained, disused and ignored, in Kintobor's lab, as other means of storing and containing the Chaos Emeralds became available.
