Pope is co-chair of the Law Affinity Group of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH). He sits on the board of the Delaware End-of-Life Coalition (DEOLC). In 2008, Pope testified before the President's Council on Bioethics. In 2009, he submitted an amicus brief to the New Jersey Appellate Division on behalf of the plaintiff/appellee in Betancourt v. Trinitas Hospital. In 2011, he testified, by invitation, to the Texas House of Representatives when it was considering amendments to the Texas Advance Directives Act. Pope holds a J.D. and Ph.D. in philosophy & bioethics from Georgetown University. He earned his B.A. with departmental honors in philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining Hamline University in 2012, Pope taught at Widener University (2007-2012) and at the University of Memphis (2005-2007). Before that, Pope served as a corporate litigation attorney at the international law firm of Arnold & Porter LLP (1997-1999 & 2000-2005). He clerked for the Honorable John L. Coffey on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit (1999-2000).
