Synopsis
  • The Midnighter has a vision wherein he sees himself and his colleagues in the Authority fighting up against a monstrous alien threat. He is forced to stand witness as every one of his teammates is killed right before his eyes. Midnighter suddenly awakens on an operating table. Apollo, Swift, the Doctor and the Engineer are standing over him. They have just disconnected him from being experimented on by an unknown adversary. Jenny Quantum manages to capture a man named Doctor Argot and brings him back to the Carrier, where she begins interrogating him. Midnighter is furious at his perceived vulnerability and takes his aggression out on his teammates. He even childishly takes a shot at the Doctor, sending him reeling to the floor. Jenny decides to re-assign Midnighter to another case until they can get to the bottom of this. In Manila, a man walks into a high rise building singing a song. As he reaches the upper floor, he reveals a bomb strapped to his belt. A massive explosion tears through the building. Across the street, two agents confer with their paid associate, Grifter. Grifter is responsible for the suicide bomber's attack, but doesn't take any pride in how his special abilities are put to use. To show his dissatisfaction, he begins manipulating the minds of his superiors. He tells them, "To get into your mind -- I have to allow you into my head. Not the party you thought was, huh?" The agents pulls their guns on Grifter, demanding him to surrender his weapon.

  • I had a pissy moment and clocked the Doctor. Let's all get over it, okay?
