Suseri-hime was the daughter of Susano-O and eventually the wife of Okuninushi. She met Okuninushi while he was searching for Susano-O in the netherworld for advice. He fell in love with her quite quickly, nevertheless Susano-O disapproved this romance and tried to kill him through various methods (making him sleep with snakes, centipedes and wasps), which all were void thanks to a scarf that Suseri-hime gave him beforehand and that protected him. As a trial, Susano-O shot an arrow to a vast meadow and told Okuninushi to search for it. While on the search, Susano-O set the meadow on fire trying to kill him, but he got saved again, this time by a mouse who showed him a hole in which he could hide, and also brought the arrow to him. By this time, Susano-O started to see some potential in Oku

Okuninushi tied Susano-O`s hair to the palace`s rafters, took his bow, arrows and koto and ran with Suseri-Hime. While on the run the koto awakened Susano-O who woke up and pulled down the palace with his hair. Just by the gates of the Netherworld Susano-O almost catches up with the elopers when he yells them and says to Okuninushi to take his weapons to fight his brothers (Okuninushi`s). After this Okuninushi asks Susano-O to allow him to marry Suseri-Hime and to build a palace at the foot of mount Uka, which he agrees to. After all this Okuninushi became the ruler of Izumo.
