  • Mount Sinai is the place where God gave Moses the Law (Torah). This was in the region of Horeb and once called "Mount Horeb." According to Easton's Bible Dictionary, the word "Sinai" identifies the region associated by the ancient moon god, Sin, that Abraham would have known from living in Ur and then Haran. It is impossible to pinpoint the exact location of this mountain, though tradition has it in the southern Sinai peninsular. The problem is, the peninsular was named based on the text of the Bible. It has not been easy, therefore, to verify any location exactly, though the clues in the Bible help the reader greatly.
