Created at the height of the Forerunner Empire, the Archon-class AIs were designed to oversee the day to day running of the Forerunner Empire, from the economy, to colonisation, research, military procurement, maintenance of habitats, industry and moderation of the judicial system. Thier incredibly advance systems were only eclipsed by the later built Contender-class AIs, in the very last hours of the Forerunner-Flood War. By the end of the Human-Covenant War, only two of the original five were left. Those that were left after the end of the Human-Covenant War reactivated the last vestiges of the Forerunner Empire under their control and formed The Guardians, with the aim of safeguarding the fledgling Alliance of United Races and rebuilding the United Earth Goverment.
