The Obsidian is a very powerful and formidable unit, being hard to destroy due to its shield. It has high damage per second, but lacks hit points and has a low rate of fire, making it more vulnerable to tech 1 units, due to overkill. The shield is also useful in that it disguises the Obsidian's actual hit points, as even if it only has a single hit point left, it can still be hard to destroy due to its shield. The Obsidian also lacks the hover capabilities present in other Aeon units.

  • The Obsidian is a very powerful and formidable unit, being hard to destroy due to its shield. The Obsidian is the strongest tech 2 unit in the game, and has the highest one-shot-damage of any tech 1 or tech 2 unit. The Obsidian can act as a powerful PD when firing from behind a wall in early-mid game. It is worth noting, however, that the Obsidian costs nearly twice as much as other faction's T2 heavy tanks (and about equal to the UEF and Cybran T2 amphibious tanks) , which allows other commanders to deploy greater numbers to compensate for this threat. However, the threat of the Seraphim Illshavoh T2 Assault Bot is nullified by the Obsidian, which can destroy Illshavohs one-on-one at the same price, with a little over half the Obsidian's health remaining. It is to be noted that with shield regeneration and (very small) speed advantage, Illshavohs will find kiting difficult to control, as Illshavoh range is only somewhat greater than that of an Obsidian, and should the Obsidian's commander take note and move in (or run away), the Illshavoh will very likely not have enough time to turn/react fast enough to survive, and it cannot catch up to the Obsidian. The Obsidian is like the other factions' land tanks and the Blaze is more like other factions' hover tanks. The Obsidian is quite good at defending against the Monkeylord due to its high dps and hp. They are not to be underestimated in base assaults as they will sponge up lots of damage from pd and will deal great damage to buildings. Use a naval choke point to ambush any ships with this unit. The choke point, if it's thin enough, will allow the Obsidian to attack ships as they will be close to land, and the Obsidian's shields and great initial shot damage will guarantee that they do a lot of damage before dying, at least a lot more than the Blaze, as the Blaze has no shields and less initial dps and general dps, so if the Blaze dies quickly, which it usually will, more so than the Obsidian since the Blaze has no shields, it will do less damage, whereas the Obsidian could at least absorb some fire, and no matter what do some decent damage if it gets in range. However, they are useless against navy units in general if they aren't getting them in a choke point as the navy will simply destroy them from outside of the Obsidian's range.
