Kate was pregnant (whether she knew it or not) when Jack died, and raised his child after returning from The Island.
* The night before boarding Ajira Flight 316, Jack and Kate had sex. Then they returned to the island for 14 days. It's possible that Kate could be pregnant during that time and not notice. Or, if she did notice that she was late, being that they were away from civilization, she would have no way to confirm/disprove her theories.
* While on the Ajira flight, they all served as proxies. Locke, obviously, served as Christian. Jack served as Sawyer as he was carrying a note from his past that he wished he could get rid of, but couldn't. Ben served as Hurley as he arrived late and nearly missed the flight. Sun served as Rose as she was a married woman, stroking her wedding

Sun served as Rose as she was a married woman, stroking her wedding ring from time to time. Hurley served as Charlie as he was carrying a guitar case with him. Sayid served as Kate as he was in handcuffs and being taken onto the plane despite his wishes. Kate doesn't appear to be serving as anyone, but it is possible that she was serving for Claire because she was a single, pregnant young woman.
