  • George Burns was an American comedian, actor and writer. He appeared as himself on The Muppet Show in episode 210, as well as the TV documentaries Magic in the Magic Kingdom and The Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park Grand Opening. A cameo intended for Burns was written in the original script "George," Kermit's old friend in the swamp. For unknown reasons, this scene did not appear in the movie.
  • His career spanned vaudeville, film, radio and television, with and without his wife, Gracie Allen. His arched eyebrow and cigar smoke punctuation became familiar trademarks for over three quarters of a century. Enjoying a career resurrection that began at age 79, and ended shortly before his death at 100, Burns was as well known in the last two decades of his life as at any other time during his career.

  • George Burns (1896-1996) was a vaudeville-trained comedian, actor and singer. His earliest fame came from co-starring with his wife, Gracie Allen, as the team of Burns and Allen. Burns played the straight man to his wife's dizzy antics and unique logic. Their partnership spanned stage work, films (including A Damsel in Distress with Fred Astaire), and the long-running Burns and Allen radio series, which began in 1932 and lasted until 1950. The show was then transferred to television (retitled The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show), and ran until 1958, when Gracie Allen retired.
  • George Burns was a 20th century American comedian and television actor. He was married to Gracie Allen. They performed together as the comedy duo "Burns and Allen". They would end their stage shows and television program with the immortal phrase "Say goodnight, Gracie." This phrase made its first appearance at the Roxy Theater in New York City, in 1932. After attempting to learn humor, with little success, Data accidentally paraphrased their hallmark and elicited laughter among the crew on the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "The Outrageous Okona" )
  • An honored comedian who became even more famous as the original Hollywood Cool Old Guy. Born in 1896, Burns played in Vaudeville and eventually started a double act with a young woman, Gracie Allen. However, Burns soon found that while she was his comic foil, she was getting more laughs with her comments than his best jokes. Being humble enough to bow to reality, Burns flipped the act and became the Straight Man and Grace Allen carried the heavy comedic lifting as the team Burns and Allen on stage, radio and television.
