  • Box jellyfish have a blue umbrella-shaped "umbrella". Their umbrella can rapidly expel water pushing it at 19 feet per minute, much faster than other jellyfish. Their long tentacles flowing from their umbrella can be 19 feet long. Box jellyfish weigh up to 4 lbs. They are practically transparent. Strangely enough, box jellyfish have a more complex nerve system than any other jellyfish and even have 24 eyes. Their eyes can sense images in the dark and are complete with corneas, retinas, and even lenses! They can tell light from dark too. Research has shown that they have a number of rhopalial nerve cells that allow them with limited memory, limited ability to learn, and visual processing.
