abstract
  • The US Department of Transportation was an organization that produced statistics about transportation. In 1994, this department estimated that over 190,000 fatal car crashes every year were related to sleepiness. While traveling to Skyland Mountain in an effort to rescue FBI Special Agent Dana Scully from Duane Barry, Agent Alex Krycek cited the Department of Transportation's findings to Special Agent Fox Mulder (Krycek's sole companion and Scully's FBI partner) as Krycek was attempting to persuade Mulder – who had long been driving without having slept – to allow him to drive, instead. Mulder rhetorically asked Krycek if the same department had estimated the number of people who were put to sleep by listening to their statistics. (TXF: "Ascension")
