Julia Renquist, a mortal, was the daughter of a wealthy businessman in Philadelphia. In 1825, David Keogh, an immortal master woodworker and craftsman, was seeing Julia, and was convinced that she was the love of his life. David convinced MacLeod to accompany him to Julia's home so that he could ask Mr. Renquist for permission to marry his daughter. Julia, however, had merely flirted with Keogh, she had no designs to become the wife of a craftsman when much wealthier men were to be had. Renquist was appalled by Keogh's suit, and Julia outright rejected him.
