Being a former Jedi, Kittern's father recognized his sensitivity to the Force at birth, yet hid the result from authorities and took it upon himself to train his son, much to the fears of Martreyea. The strain of his Stel-Ardak's work as well as the questions of his mother and the investigations of Anakin Skywalker let to Stel-Ardak killing Martreyea with the Force, an event that Kittern witnessed and perhaps scared him permanently. When Skywalker and Stel-Ardak engaged in combat, Obi-Wan Kenobi took Kittern with him to the Temple where he was later accepted for training. Stel-Ardak instructed Skywalker to look after his son, and not to tell him what had happened. Kittern remembered nothing of the event, yet Kenobi and Yoda suspected that it was buried in his subconscious.
