Heavenly Mountain Resort is a ski resort located on the California-Nevada border in South Lake Tahoe ( 38°56'7.40"N, 119°56'24.29"W). It has 85 runs and 29 lifts that are spread between California and Nevada and four base facilities. The resort was recently purchased by Vail Resorts, Inc. With an average of 360 inches (9 m) of snow annually and one of America's largest snowmaking systems, their season usually runs from late November to mid April.

On the afternoon of January 5, 1998 Heavenly was the scene of the death of musician and politician Sonny Bono. While skiing alone, Bono struck a tree in the area between "Orion", and "Big Dipper", intermediate slopes high on Heavenly's Nevada side.
