  • The parentage of Alekto and the other two Erinyes is disputed. They are either the daughters of Gaia by the blood of Ouranos according to Hesiod, Nyx as stated by Aeschyluls, Hades & Persephone mentioned in Orphic Hymns or Poine according to Valerius Flaccus. According to Hesiod, she was the daughter of Gaea fertilized by the blood spilled from Ouranos when Cronus castrated him. She is the sister of Tisiphone (Vengeance) Megaera (Jealousy) and according to Quintus Smyrnaeus Tilphousia. Alecto is the Erinys with the job of castigating the moral crimes (such as anger), especially if they are against other people. Her function is similar to Nemesis, with the difference that Nemesis's function is to castigate crimes against the gods.
