Bored of corporate life and believing she could do greater things in her life, Janet encouraged Hank to use his scientific prowess to artificially create powers for them to use to fight crime. Caring less about crime fighting and all about science, Hank decided to fulfill her wishes, since she supplies his funds and is his girlfriend, by heading a new division of van Dyne Industries privatizing production of superhero technology. Some of Hank's earliest breakthroughs included Project: Hymenoptera and Project: Goliath. The technology developed in these projects were then "tested" by himself and Janet who became the superhero duo, Giant-Man (who is also Ant-Man) and Wasp (who is also Giant-Girl). The fame they gained from their superheroic exploits would lead to government support of van Dyne Industries' Superhero Technologies Branch. Under the US government's request, van Dyne Industries took on the government's currently unsuccessful Project: Rebirth. Giant-Man and Wasp were the first superheroes of the modern era who did not keep their civilian identity secret. Shortly following van Dyne's control over the superhero tech market, Stark Industries, primarily a weapons producer, created the Iron Man Armor, which led to van Dyne Industries suing Stark Industries on the grounds that it "stole" ideas from Project: New Vision. The suit is still in process.
