| - Jacques Vanier was born November 10, 2326 in Rilmos. He served as Chancellor of the Federated Republic of Jelbania from 2374 until 2384. He is the son of Gerard Vanier, a postal service manager, and Bernadette, a schoolteacher. Vanier studied International Relations at Beaudoin University and joined the Jelbanian Foreign Service upon his graduation in 2348. He was stationed for three years in the Grandy Duchy of Keymon. Vanier returned home to study for his law degree at the University of Farrinborough and then taught courses in trade law and international political economy at the school. From 2356 to 2361, Vanier served as Assistant Director for International Business Policy at the Citizens Union party headquarters. In 2361, he was named by Chancellor Nicolas Balladour to be Ambassador to Confédération des Deux Kanjors. He resigned in 2368 upon his appointment to a vacancy in Parliament. He was a surprise entry in the 2374 CCU leadership race to replace Balladour, but he quickly gained support from upper-middle class professionals, technocrats, and other voters dissatisfied with the establishment candidacies of Daguerre, Ybarra, and Brodeur. His religious credentials were questioned by many in the Brodeur camp, but it never became a real issue due to the fact that Vanier attended church twice a week and was quiet active in his local congregation. His ten years in office were marked by peace and prosperity. Vanier strengthened international ties with the Union Francaise organization and through the Accords des Nations Amicales treaty. He was a lead proponent of the 2384 Accord Games. His successor as CCU leader, Lise Marchand, blamed the disastrous 2384 election results on his policy-making inactivity.
