The U.S.S. Brandywine was a destroyer in the service of the United States Navy and which unbeknownst to its crew also had faulty wiring on board. On November 19th 2002, a bombing occurred on the ship, presumably destroying it, resulting in six Navy sailors dying and while twenty-two were left injured with one of the fatalities of the attack being Evan Dearing, the son of businessman-turned-terrorist Harper Dearing while another fatality was Lieutenant Derek Whitting.

Ten years later, in late May 2012, Dearing still consumed with grief and the need for revenge launched an attack against the United States Navy by blowing up numerous Navy ships and which also eventually resulted in the Navy Yard Bombing where Dearing personally targeted NCIS, the federal agency whose agents had investigated the circumstances surrounding the attack on the Brandywine (and also because NCIS had been responsible for transferring Evan Dearing to the doomed ship as punishment after he and some of his friends as a prank humiliated his commanding officer by showing a video depicting his commander in a sexual act).
