The Midgar Zolom is a giant snake enemy that lurks in the marshlands of Final Fantasy VII. While traversing the swamp, the Zolom's shadow will appear on the ground, and if the party touches the shadow, a battle will be initiated. At this early point in the game, it can be incredibly difficult to defeat, especially since it starts to use Beta as a counter-attack when its HP gets low. The easiest method to cross the swamp is to simply avoid it by riding Chocobos, which are fast enough to avoid it. Later in the game, when the party returns to the swamp, it will discover a Zolom skewered by a giant sword, presumably done by Sephiroth.
