- If you are wearing an amulet of life saving and die, the amulet literally saves your life and restores full hit points. In the process the amulet disintegrates, and you lose 1 constitution point. Only if your maximum hit points was zero or lower, it is reset to 10. The amulet does not protect against death by self-genocide, death by brainlessness or forfeiture through trickery. If your gloves are destroyed (as opposed to taking them off) while wielding a petrifying corpse, this amulet will not save you.

Desirability
| - High. It is the most valuable non-artifact amulet in the game. As well as its ability to bring you back to life, an AoLS is also the only way to save Khelevaster from death, receiving much better rewards and opening up the possibility of an ultra ending. To do this, you have to 'g'ive it to him, and refrain from 'C'hatting with him beforehand.

They cannot stop some forms of death, but are quite useful nonetheless. Generally, if it's an HP death, it will bring you back; otherwise, it usually won't work. Old age and corruption deaths, for example, will not be prevented by an AoLS; however, they can prevent some instant deaths such as petrification or being eaten by a grue.
As amulets of life saving are made of iron, they are quite susceptible to item destruction. This means they should typically be equipped in preparation for potentially deadly boss battles and kept in safer places during exploration.

It cannot be eaten for intrinsics (nice try, though).
